Bev Crushes it ’23 – A Recap

On July 10, 2023, we did something amazing. Together we “Crushed the Granite” but more importantly, our fundraising tally for 2023 hit $138,000. Sunnybrook Lung Cancer will receive a big cheque, and you played a part. I thank you. It was a great day of golf and fundraising. We had an exceptional day, from having long drive champion Kelly Rudney crush your tee shot to testing your putting skills or relaxing on the patio. Nothing Succeeds like Success!

November 2022 They say, ‘nothing succeeds like success,’ and that’s precisely what happened in 2022. Building on last year’s donation, we added another $100+K to the tally and have raised over $335,000 for Sunnybrook Lung Cancer. There are smiles all around  – from my amazing committee to the research team at Sunnybrook, who continue to innovate and give hope to cancer patients like me.  This year’s donation is earmarked for liquid biopsy research – a specialized, non-invasive test to detect cancer in the blood. Greetings, friends, family and supporters! Thank you for your encouragement and support over the past three plus years. I’m thrilled to report I’ve surpassed my ‘best before date’ of three years of life expectancy. I’m forever grateful for recent scientific advances in biomarker testing and targeted therapy  – a less toxic, more personalized treatment plan for advanced-stage lung cancer. Thank you to Sunnybrook’s Drs. Alexander Louie, David Hwang, Ambika Parmar, and their outstanding team of specialists. As the leading cause of cancer death for Canadian men and women, lung cancer has a poor image. It needs reframing. I’m willing to be one of its poster children because I want to change how we think about lung cancer. It didn’t take long for me to understand that my stigmatized view of lung cancer, and our collective perception, negatively affect the support, attention, and funding lung cancer receives. Greetings golfers and supporters,  As they say in Hollywood, ‘It’s a wrap!’ Of course, we’re talking about ‘Crush it with Bev’ – in support of Sunnybrook Lung Cancer. We crushed our fundraising goal and raised $150,000. The monies came from donations (personal and corporate), sponsorships, the Lebovic golf day and on-line auction. It was an all-around winner on a sunny September 15, 2021. Thanks to the golfers and sponsors who made it happen. Delighted to report that we ‘crushed’ the goal of raising $100,000 for Sunnybrook Lung Cancer research. Here’s Bev Moir happily accepting a donation of $15,500 from Scotia Wealth Management’s retired advisor Carl Spiess, representing their “Share the Wealth” program for Canadian charities.
